Building a New Player

How to design a build with the NBA 2K27 builder and turn it into your YBL player.

Overview

A new player is made in two parts. First you design a build — your body and the maximum (cap) of every attribute. Then you create the player from that build and choose where he starts, his badges and his jumpshot.

1
Open the Builder and pick your height, weight and wingspan.
2
Set your attributes until the build reaches 99 overall.
3
Click Use this build. You go straight on to finishing your player.
4
Or click Add to Public Build Tool to share it. Anyone (you too) can then open it in the Build Pool and click Pick This Build.

1 · Body

  • Height: 5'10" to 7'4".
  • Weight: the allowed range depends on your height.
  • Wingspan: from your height up to 6 inches longer.

Your body decides the body ceiling of every attribute — the highest it can ever go. Taller players reach higher inside and rebounding ceilings, smaller players higher ball handling and speed. Weight and wingspan shift this further (e.g. a longer wingspan helps defense and rebounding). Change the body and watch the ceilings move.

Below 6'1" there is no Standing Dunk — its ceiling stays at 25.

2 · Attributes

You set 21 attributes in six groups: Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding and Physicals. Each starts at 25 and can go up to its body ceiling. What you set here are your caps — how high your player can upgrade each attribute later.

  • 99 overall limit: every point you add raises the build overall. When nothing more fits, the build is complete at 99.
  • Linked attributes: some attributes depend on each other. Raising one can pull others up, lowering one can pull others down. Attributes that moved this way flash in amber.
  • Markers: the white tick is the body ceiling. CEIL means you reached the ceiling, MAX means the 99 limit stops you.
  • Cap breaker preview: below each attribute you see what 5 cap breakers would add later (≈, an estimate).
Tip: decide on your 2–3 most important skills first and max them, then fill the rest. Cheap points like Free Throw or Post Control are good to finish a build.

3 · Build Pool

Add to Public Build Tool saves your build to the Build Pool. Anyone can pick a build from the pool to create a player — and each build can only be used once. If you want a build someone already used, open it and use it as a template for a new one.

4 · Create the Player

Steps

Creating a player goes step by step: 1 Attributes (the builder) → 2 Starting Age → 3 Badges → 4 Animations → 5 Appearance (idol, Twitch and YouTube names). You can go back to any earlier step before you click Create Player. A build can only be saved once it is finished (no attribute can be raised any more).

Starting Age

Your starting age decides how much of your total attributes you start with, and your starting badge points. The page shows your exact starting attributes before you continue.

ExperienceAgeStart with (of total attributes)Badge points (P / S)Badges start at (P / S)
Veteran3180%20 / 24Gold / Silver
G-League2760%16 / 20Silver / Silver
College2340%12 / 16Silver / Bronze

"Starts at 80%" means every attribute starts 80% of the way from 25 to your cap. The rest you earn with XP. Younger players start lower but have a longer career.

Also on this page

  • Shot IQ ↔ Hustle: one slider; together they always make 150.
  • Badges and an optional Jumpshot — see below.
  • Appearance & Twitch (optional): body type, skin tone and notes go to an admin to apply in-game. Your Twitch name links Channel Point rewards.

Badges

  • A badge is available when your build caps meet its Bronze requirement (shown on each badge).
  • Its cost in badge points depends on your height — the same badge can be cheaper for a guard than for a center.
  • Click a badge once for Primary, twice for Secondary, a third time to remove it.
  • Primary badges can later be upgraded up to Legend, secondary badges up to Gold, any other badge up to Silver.

Jumpshot

  • Pick a Base and two Releases from the same list, plus Release Timing and Blending.
  • The list depends on your size — Smalls (up to 6'4"), Swings (6'5"–6'9"), Bigs (6'10" and taller) — and on your shooting caps.
  • It's optional: you can also set your jumpshot later with a jumpshot token.

Calculated Attributes

Besides your 21 attributes, 13 more are calculated automatically and update whenever you upgrade. You never buy them directly.

After Creating

  • Upgrades: spend XP on your My Player page to raise attributes up to their caps (not higher).
  • Cap breakers: once an attribute is maxed, a cap breaker raises its cap — and the attribute goes up with it. Up to 5 per attribute, never past the body ceiling. See the Player Guide.
  • Badges, animations, tendencies, hot zones: upgraded with tokens, as explained in the Player Guide.
